![]() ![]() This inversion is super intense and is the best on the ride, in my opinion. You quickly dive into a laying position on your back, and then come back into a flying position. It then flies into the first inversion, a pretzel loop. After reaching the top of the lift hill, the coaster banks right into the drop, diving 113 feet. The lift hill is pretty loud though, and you can still hear it over the music. Manta starts by climbing up the 140-foot tall lift hill while some music plays from speakers on the sides. I’ve had multiple rides in the front and back of this ride, so here are my thoughts: This was my first flying coaster, so I had pretty high expectations going in. It is 3,359 feet long and has a height of 140 feet. There is also a little bit of theming on the ride. The manta ray-themed queue is quite enjoyable, with drawings, paintings, and a fairly large aquarium with a wide variety of fish. This coaster opened at SeaWorld Orlando in 2009 and is still holding up. “I didn’t realize I was going to get this soaked,” said a shivering Amy Garza of Tempe, Ariz.Manta is a B&M flying coaster with four inversions, which are two inline twists, one corkscrew, and one pretzel loop. Especially if you are a visitor from drier shores. The verdict: It isn’t much of a coaster, but with its epic walls of water and astounding drenching abilities, Pirate Reef is one heck of a ride. Bring a change of clothes (and underclothes) for yourself and anyone you want to save from a day of chafing. And that is before you ride past the squirting frogs and under the bridge equipped with fully functioning water guns. When your coaster car splashes down, you will be enveloped in a tidal wave that comes from every direction and leaves you drenched to the bone. Ticket to ride: With just one short (but steep) climb and one perfectly reasonable 25-foot drop, Pirate Reef is one of the friendliest, most low-key coasters ever. ![]() The biggest casualty will be your clothes, which may not fully dry until Christmas. The park’s spanking-new attraction is a “water coaster” that has visitors riding right through the middle of a battle between two warring Lego pirate ships. And if you brave Legoland’s Pirate Reef, it is all going to be on you. I can’t wait to bring my niece.”Īnd while I went in search of my pulse, Cassie and her husband, Sam, got back in line to ride it again.įirst look: Water, water everywhere. “It’s exhilarating without being too much,” said 21-year-old Cassie Peterson, a SeaWorld pass member who was wrapping up her second Manta ride. The roller coaster fans in the car behind me begged to differ. The verdict: On my own white-knuckle weenie scale, I would say that Manta is less terrifying than Disneyland’s Space Mountain but more stomach-churning than its Indiana Jones Adventure. And there is the 54-foot plunge that shows no mercy at all. There are near-horizontal turns that threaten to turn you upside down but mercifully don’t. ![]() The first launch takes riders from zero to 43 mph in two face-peeling seconds. Or if you are a roller coaster wimp like me, it’s all scary. If you have never seen the underside of a ray, this could be the scariest part of your whole journey. ![]() Ticket to ride: The full-immersion Manta experience starts long before you board, with a path that winds through an aquarium where real California bat rays (Mantas are too big) glide in giant tanks and - more awesomely - in overhead viewing windows. ![]()
